AREA COORDINATOR
Specific Area Coordinator qualifications and responsibilities are outlined below, but most importantly Coordinators are responsible for finding host families, contacting schools and supporting host families and students throughout the duration of the stay.
Qualifications:
- Accept the philosophy and objectives of Nacel Open Door and be dedicated to furthering international understanding by promoting cultural exchanges.
- Be willing to follow and champion Nacel Open Door policies and procedures.
- College degree and previous work experience preferred.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, facilitating rapport with teachers, parents and students.
- Possess leadership qualities and good organizational skills, being assertive and able to select, manage and motivate a team of local representatives.
- Have patience, flexibility and objectivity in solving problem situations.
- Be conscientious and perseverant, able to perform well under pressure and make sure commitments are met.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain good relationships with schools and various civic and church groups to increase participation in Nacel Open Door programs.
- Recruit, with the assistance of local representatives, host families and schools to accept the agreed upon number of students. Work with host families to find the best match as well as orient students and host families.
- Comply with Department of State and Nacel Open Door guidelines and documentation requirements.
- Follow specific program guidelines for student arrival and departures.
- Monitor the student’s exchange experience in his/her host family, and update the Central Office District Manager as necessary, with a minimum of a monthly report.
- If the student cannot remain in the home of the original host family, replace student with a new host family in the same school district if possible.
- Maintain contact with former Nacel Open Door host families.
- Must train and encourage local representatives to visit and do presentations in their neighborhood schools
- Establish and nurture a network of local representatives to provide personal contact in local areas.
- Commit to placing a certain number of students and work with local representatives to realize that goal.
Compensation and Expenses:
Area Coordinators receive commission fees based on the number of students placed and sent abroad. Nacel Open Door provides promotional materials such as brochures, posters and videos, and all program materials (recommendation forms, home visit forms, handbooks, evaluation forms, etc.).
The primary expenses of a Coordinator include telephone, postage, printing/copying and mileage. Coordinators must maintain accurate records of these expenses for tax reporting purposes. Coordinator compensation is reported to the IRS on a Form 1099 for non-employee compensation, and Coordinators must complete Schedule C (Form 1040). |
