The CBYX vocational program offers American high school graduating seniors the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to study in Germany. Students looking for other travel abroad opportunities may take advantage of NOD’s partnership with Nacel International for all other travel abroad programs.
The Congress-Bundestag Vocational Scholarship provides an opportunity for U.S. high school graduates who have undertaken vocational training to spend their 13th year abroad pursuing their vocational interests. It is important to emphasize at the outset that this is a “Young Adult” program, which seeks to enroll students who have demonstrated maturity and responsibility and who can be entrusted to fulfill their roles as exchange students without day-to-day supervision.
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program provides a unique intercultural educational opportunity for American and German youth. Each year over 300 American high school students receive full scholarships to become exchange students to Germany, where they will live with Host Families for a year and attend German schools. This program is supported, as well as funded, by the United States Congress and the German Bundestag.
For the upcoming school year, a special Congress-Bundestag scholarship opportunity is being offered to 25 graduating high school seniors with a vocational background. This program is being administered by Nacel Open Door.
Nacel Open Door (NOD) offers other options for high school students as well. Students can open the doors to the world and discover the international adventures that are waiting for them. Our programs are designed for students to experience the world and its languages and cultures by becoming part of them. NOD provides students with opportunities across the globe in a variety of different formats, and we look forward to helping each student have the experience of a lifetime.
Our most traditional format, and the backbone of most of our programs, is the pure homestay, where students learn the culture and language of a country by staying with a Host Family and participating in their everyday lives. Students can also select more structured language learning opportunities by participating in home schooling or tutorial programs with excursions. Virtually every destination offers touring opportunities as well. NOD also offers work experience and internship programs for young adults – perhaps the career opportunity of a lifetime for many participants.
Students can participate in NOD programs as an individual or part of a group, in the summer or for a semester or an academic year.
Nacel Open Door is proud to partner with Nacel International in coordinating travel for Americans abroad. Nacel International has a large number of programs to a wide array of destinations.
Europe is a long-standing and popular location for our students. Nacel’s French, German, and Spanish programs are available in the summer through pure homestay, home schooling, tutorial, small group, or touring options. We also offer opportunities for students to study for an academic year or semester in public or private high schools. Each of our European country locations offers distinct cultures, food, and experiences for our students, and regardless of where the student travels, they return home with new life-long friends and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Latin and South America are other popular locations for Nacel students. Students interested in adventure and eager to experience colors, flavors, music, and cuisine are sure to find their reward in travel to these countries. Nacel is proud to be able to offer both summer immersion programs and academic year and semester programs in both Mexico and Argentina. Our Nacel Host Families welcome our students and share their everyday lives, culture, and language with them. The relationships that students form with their new Latin or South American friends can be amazing, life-long friendships.
Asia is a relatively new location for U.S. students, though we’ve had relationships with our partners there for many years. Nacel is very proud and excited to be able to offer homestay, language learning, and academic year programs in both Japan and China. We offer programs for the language beginner and for those students who have already studied the target language. Our programs offer students the chance to experience first-hand these wondrous and fascinating lands, full of surprises and discoveries. As an ancient Chinese proverb says, “Traveling 10,000 miles is the same as reading 1,000 books.”
