Towards the end of the 2017-2018 program year, we asked AYP students a series of questions about their experiences in the USA.

The sample of responses below offer unique, honest, and often times humorous view of American life from an outside perspective.

On their favorite memory....

"My Florida trip, homecoming, prom, but also the small things. The daily things that you do that mean a lot: walking with family, walking dogs, talking with friends at the lunch table. Everything." - Sarah from Germany, who lived with a host family in Iowa.

Silas

"When it snowed, Christmas with the host family in NYC, and, believe it or not, the 12-hour car trip." Matteo from Italy, who lived with a host family in North Carolina.

"My new family!" - Joao from Brazil, who lived with a host family in Minnesota.

"Winter! Because we couldn't do much, so I got to stay inside with my host family and we got so close. We fought sometimes, but we laughed so much. Winter was my favorite." -Maria from Bolivia, who lived with a host family in Wisconsin.

Regine

"My favorite memories are the first day of school, because that was when I found my first friend, the teachers were very nice, and the students are open-minded." Emelia from Germany, who lived with a host family in Ohio.

On what they'll miss most about their host family...

"I will miss how fun and goofy my host family is. I always have a happy feeling and love my host family a lot." Janita from Thailand, who lived with a host family in Wisconsin

"I will miss how funny my host dad is and how easy my host dad understands me as a person." Guillermo from Spain, who lived with a host family in Ohio.

Tiago

"I am going to miss the sense of family that I have experienced while in the USA. I have enjoyed coming home to a house full of people, and the sense of belonging that this has created." -Ruben from Germany, who lived with a host family in Wisconsin.

"Their smiling encouragement, their patience and kindness, and their big-hearted nature." Ignacio from Spain, who lived with a host family in Georgia.
