Nacel Open Door, Inc. (NOD) is dedicated to promoting international understanding and language education.
Depending on your unique needs and goals as a student—whether you are from the U.S. or abroad—you’ll find programs that will help you explore the world. We believe that immersion is the best way to learn about another country's people, heritage, and values, and NOD is dedicated to providing you with the information and support you need for a life-changing experience.
Study In the US
Academic Year Program
Enjoy the classic foreign exchange experience with the Academic Year Program. Requiring a J-1 visa and focusing on cultural exchange, this program offers the opportunity to live with a host family, attend an American high school, and explore American culture for an academic semester or year.
Private School Program
Academically focused students with F-1 visas can study at a private American high school for multiple years, earn a U.S. high school diploma, and will live with a supportive host family throughout the length of their program.
Short Term Programs
Experience educational and recreational American culture firsthand by living with a host family for 1–5 weeks.
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) Vocational Scholarship Program allows U.S. high school seniors to spend the year after graduation in Germany pursuing vocational interests.
American students can learn the culture and language of a foreign country by living with a host family and experiencing their daily life and activities
The Nacel International School System (NISS) is a network of K-12 schools offering an American-style education around the world in countries throughout Asia, as well as in France and the United States.
What Are Host Families Like?
You will stay with host families who are carefully chosen and screened by NOD representatives in communities across the United States.
These families are volunteers and agree to welcome students into their lives as a member of their family. They provide room and board as well as the care and support necessary for students as they learn and adjust to life in the U.S. Students have the opportunity to take part in family activities and are encouraged to make the most of their opportunity to learn about everyday life in America from their host family.
What Kind of Support Do Students Receive?
Students remain well supported throughout their stay in the U.S. by having many resources available to them.
Regional coordinators work together with local representatives to place students with families and then support the students while on the program as they acclimate to American culture. Student advisors are also available to students for support at anytime. This network of local and regional reps and coordinators, as well as the NOD national office staff, are dedicated to assisting students in having an enjoyable and memorable experience in the U.S.
Nacel Open Door offers two scholarships each year so that more students have the chance to explore the world through exchange programs.
