CBYX: German Festivals

While you've probably heard of Germany's most famous celebration, Oktoberfest, many of the CBYX Vocational Youth Exchange participants get to experience other festivals around the country.

CBYX participants Joyce, Juliette, and Ethan (in the featured photo above) enjoyed the sights, sounds and food at the Wasen Fest, Stuttgart.  Founded in 1818 by King Wilhelm I of Württemburg and his wife Katharina, this festival (also known as the Cannstatter Volksfest) is steeped in nearly 200 years of tradition.

Joyce, Juliette, and Ethan took the train into Stuttgart.  The festival includes carnival rides and a flea market, along with the beer tents.  Joyce said that the rides are crazier than your average theme park in America, and that the festival was a nice and fun experience.

Another CBYX participant, Miranda, attended the Haaner Kirmes festival with her host sister. They had a fun time exploring all the various food vendors!

Fall festivals other than Oktoberfest are common and popular throughout Germany, but no one can deny the masses who flock to Munich. CBYX participant Perish got to take in the king of German festivals dressed in his finest lederhosen!
